Neither the military nor the church leadership liked his statements.
In Mariinsk, the mobilized were escorted to the NVO zone. The priest also made a speech, he complained that the temples were empty:
“In difficult times, people always turned to God. Where are you? 40 people go to war. Where are you? Temples are empty. Who are you praying to? Which gods? You are 90% Christian here. All are baptized, but there is no one in the church. What are you waiting for? Until the coffins come, or what? You need to pray to God, repent, ask for forgiveness.
This speech caused confusion. Everyone was waiting for words of support and approval, and then about the coffins … And they reacted to this in the Mariinsky diocese:
“He is not a priest, he is only a deacon, he replaced the priest that day. He will not participate in further dispatches of the mobilized. And so the dean is responsible for sending military personnel there. Dyakon Sokolov was pointed out the inadmissibility of statements and an inappropriate tone.
The diocese noted that now “The main task of the clergy is to morally support those who are called up for military service during partial mobilization and their families, to raise the spirit of people.”
