The singer’s performances on the New York stage fell through due to her refusal to give up “public support” of Vladimir Putin in 2022.
According to The New York Times, the arbitrator ordered the administration of the institution to cover the cost of $200,000 for 13 canceled concerts. The contract implies payment, even if the performer did not take part in the event.
The theater had previously refused to pay, believing that Netrebko “violated the contract” by supporting Putin.
The judge also noted that the singer has the right to be a supporter of the Russian president and this is not an offense. At the same time, Netrebko herself was fined almost $30,000 (more than 2 million rubles) for her statements about her Western critics, RT reports.
Along with this, the court refused to pay Netrebko 400 thousand dollars for engagements, which were discussed, but in the end were not agreed upon.
The court made such a decision last month, but they reported it only now, writes The New York Times.
