Today, the planet has over 8.7 million different species of animals, each of which is endowed with its own unique habits and characteristics. Although some of the species can be safely compared to humans, there are enough secrets in the realm of nature that can surprise us.
It is to them that the following small selection is devoted.
It may seem that animals go to the toilet anywhere. But definitely not badgers, in whose holes there are “rooms” that serve as a kind of latrine.
It is no secret that otters love to feast on shellfish, which are not so easy to open. However, they have a special pocket in which a stone is stored intended for these very purposes.
Many would envy the skill that albatrosses possess, because they can sleep right during the flight. While one half of the brain makes sure that the bird does not fall down, the other half of it is resting.
The same principle goes for the sleep of dolphins. They sleep with one eye open
indicating that one hemisphere of the brain is currently active.
The one who really knows how to have fun is the Japanese macaques, who love to swim in hot springs and play snowballs. But gorillas have fun in a different way: they happily hum when they eat. Moreover, primates will do it louder if it turns out to be their favorite food.
It may seem that the snow leopard does not get cold, but his nose may well freeze. That is why these animals carry their tail in their mouths to protect themselves from the cold.
It turns out that adult gophers are still poseurs. They kiss more if people are watching them. Young individuals at this moment, on the contrary, begin to behave aggressively.
It is a mistake to believe that all flamingos are pink, because in fact these birds are born with gray feathers. They get their usual color due to the frequent feeding of shrimp.
Speaking of the latter, it turns out that their heart is in their head.
You should not offend the crows, because they are not only able to remember the face of the offender, but also to take revenge. Moreover, their brains can store this information for up to five years.
If you are allergic to cats or dogs, then know that they can also have it on you. And most often a similar reaction occurs if a person has dandruff.
No one can enjoy the taste as much as butterflies. It’s no secret that they have receptors on their paws, but few people know that they are 200 times stronger than human ones.
If you have drunk alcohol, beware of mosquitoes. With a high degree of probability, they will bite you, because these insects are very attracted to the smell of octanol.
Let’s talk a little about the training of animals. It turns out that pigeons can be trained to distinguish between paintings by Picasso and Claude Monet. It is not clear why, but an appropriate experiment was carried out, during which it turned out that the brain of these birds is able to generalize information. Thanks to this, they are able to distinguish pictures seen for the first time.
But rooks can be taught order. In 2018, in one of the amusement parks in France, these birds were taught to clean up garbage and cigarette butts. When they brought all this “good” to a special box, the device automatically gave them food.
But rats can be taught to find chemical compounds in explosives. Thanks to this, they will be able to ignore the metal itself, allowing sappers to find mines faster. As you know, this has already been taught to rats in Africa.
Well, let’s finish with the answer to the question, where do birds fly in winter? For several millennia, no one knew, until in 1882 the riddle was partially revealed. One German hunter shot a stork, in whose neck a fragment of an African spear was found. This is what served as evidence that at least some of the birds migrate to Africa for the winter.
