Since the ship is fictitious, Blanche had to take a real ship, the Swedish Vase, as a basis, and then adapt it to match the characteristics of the Flying Dutchman. He assembled materials including plywood and electronic materials to add light and sound to the ship. Blanche built the electronic components into the ship’s original design and then proceeded to build the ship around them, adding “boards” to the frame.
