Former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev has died at the age of 92. This was stated in the Central Clinical Hospital, reports RIA Novosti.
“Mikhail Sergeevich Gorbachev died this evening after a serious and prolonged illness,” the Central Clinical Hospital reported.
In June, Gorbachev Foundation spokesman Vladimir Polyakov said that Mikhail Gorbachev was suffering from kidney disease and was undergoing treatment, including hemodialysis. He also linked the deterioration of the health of the 91-year-old former president of the USSR with age.
Gorbachev led the USSR from 1985 until its collapse in 1991.
