His father, Sergei Bodrov Sr., categorically did not want his son to become an actor. Sergei listened and entered the Faculty of History of Moscow State University. He graduated with honors, having written a work on architecture in painting of the Venetian Renaissance.

But he was still drawn to the cinema. First, he starred with his father in the “Prisoner of the Caucasus.” Then Alexei Balabanov invited Sergei to the film “Brother” and after the resounding success of the picture, Sergei has completely switched to cinema. He starred in the continuation – “Brother-2”, “War” and several more films.

In life, he was a modest, intelligent guy. No partying or drinking. In addition, he was monogamous and touchingly loved Svetlana, the wife and mother of his two children.

Later he began to try his hand at directing, filmed the trial “Sisters” and took up the film “The Messenger”, it was filmed in North Ossetia. In September 2002, a glacier came down in the Karmadon Gorge and buried the entire film crew along with Sergei. Rescue work was going on, some hope was glimmering, people were declared missing … Since then, 20 years have passed and it is already clear to everyone that no one was saved. The 30-year-old Bodrov at that time had a 4-year-old daughter Olya and a son Sasha – he was only a month old.

After the tragedy, Sergei’s father renounced all rights to the inheritance.

The only thing he asked was to see his grandchildren as often as possible, because this is all that he had left from his dead son. Svetlana never married again, she cannot stop loving Sergei, and she does not need other men.

Daughter Olga graduated from school with a gold medal and entered GITIS. In 2021, she received a prize at the Kinotavr festival for her role in the film The Sea Worries Once, directed by Nikolai Khomeriki.

Son Sasha after school entered the Faculty of History of Moscow State University. Relatives say that by nature he is the spitting image of a father.

In memory of Sergei, his mother published her son’s diploma work “Architecture in Venetian Renaissance Painting”. He was very proud of her and said that this was his main achievement.

Remarkable films and the same sweater from the movie “Brother” remained in his memory. Once the wife of the director Alexei Balabanov looked after him in a second-hand store and bought it for 35 rubles. That’s how he got into the movie.

When Sergei died in the Karmadon Gorge, he was only 30 years old. And during this period he managed more than many in his entire life. Young, talented, active – Sergei would make a great career. Did not work out…
