The deer of David got its name in honor of the zoologist Armand David, who studied the life of the last wild herd in China, where these ungulates lived, and made every effort to preserve it. The Chinese themselves use the funny word “si-pu-xiang” to refer to this creature. Which translates as “none of the four”. Since the deer shows signs of four animals at once – cow hooves, camel neck, deer antlers and donkey tail.
