Not so long ago, the network discussed virtual models, which began to be created in South Korea and used as brand advertising. They have become especially popular during the pandemic.
Zeros and ones began not only to be visualized in girls of model appearance, with the help of digital graphics they began to create musicians. For example, two developers created the “first digital rapper” under the name FN Meka back in 2019.
The voice was an unknown black musician, and the music was generated by artificial intelligence.
The appearance of this rapper was “classic” for this genre. A black man, with jewelry, tattoos and brightly colored hair.
The repertoire was chosen so that the digital artist would become popular. Almost three years later, the artist has more than a billion views on his TikTok account and hundreds of thousands of listeners on streaming platforms. Naturally, the music label Capitol Music Group, owned by Universal, turned to the creators of the artist. But the contract concluded with FN Meka lasted a little over a week. The fact is that users dug up the first tracks of a digital artist on the net, where he uses the word for the letter “H”, which people only with black skin color have the right to pronounce.
The fact that the creators are a white European and an Asian American added fuel to the fire. Due to a wave of negativity and accusations of racism, the label terminated the contract with the musician.
A spokesperson for the label said, “We didn’t do enough research on issues regarding equity and the creative process in the project. We’re grateful to everyone who’s provided constructive criticism over the past few days – you helped make the decision to cut our ties with the artist.”
In turn, one of the creators of the digital artist, Anthony Martini, said that if you take a line from the early songs of FN Meka out of context, then it can be misunderstood. By the way, since 2021, AI has also become the voice of the artist.
One of the latest works of this digital rapper was a joint track with real-life rapper Gunna, who is under arrest for racketeering charges. The police are checking all the lyrics of the musician’s songs, including the one he released together with artificial intelligence. Users are concerned that Gunna may pay for what she said in FN Meka’s song.
What do you think? Is it right to be angry with fans who believe that a white and Asian have no right to create a black digital rapper for enrichment?
